Advantages of ACT Reading Tutoring
Advantages of ACT Reading TutoringACT Reading Tutoring is a program designed to help students improve their reading skills. It is similar to other educational programs, but this program focuses on improving the skills that are directly related to the college entrance exam. There are many advantages of such a program, especially for students who have difficulty in reading and writing. The students take on their own agenda and learn at their own pace. The students are given hands-on experience in reading and writing. If the students do not get any help, they can still participate in a written assignment in a classroom. However, if the student also participates in the hands-on exercise, then he or she will have a lot of experience in reading and writing. This is very beneficial to the students. The course is a good approach towards learning. The students are allowed to make their own schedule, without anyone making their life difficult. They also get the support from their teachers, who p rovide constructive feedback. At the end of the day, students are able to improve their own reading skills. The students have to take tests to help them understand what they did wrong and what they should do in future. If they do well, then they will get a high grade and improve their grades in other subjects. If students succeed, then they will be able to get good results in other subjects. This will also help the students prepare for the SAT or ACT. The course can be obtained from colleges or other tutoring centers. Some schools also offer the course, but students need to register in order to avail the benefits. As with other educational programs, there are other advantages for taking the ACT exam. Students who take the course have an advantage over students who do not take the course. However, students should take into consideration the nature of the curriculum which is compatible with the ACT. Some schools offer this type of course, but they should be familiar with the reading and writing skills that is required to pass the test. Students who want to enhance their college entrance test scores can enroll in the ACT Reading Tutoring program.

The Role of Private Tutoring for Secondary School Students
The Role of Private Tutoring for Secondary School Students How to Find a Good Tutor for your Child ChaptersThe Importance of Success During Key Stage 4Offering Remedial Teaching to Students in Difficulty to Avoid Technology ClassesTutoring to Prepare for the GCE Advanced English Language OptionExtra School Support to Revise Subjects and Gain MethodologyTutoring and Advanced Level Subjects: isn't that a bit much?Post-secondary education has always been a stressful, exhausting and long process. This has not changed. Many youths across the United Kingdom refuse to further their education because they are afraid of failure. The UK Education System implemented in 1951 the GCE Advanced Level, comparable to a French baccalaureate, that trains British students from 16-18 to prepare for university. Students are required to study 3 or 4 A Level subjects simultaneously during this two year period. Pupils can choose from a wide variety of subjects according to the education board. Most commonly offered subjects include Art Design, Economics, English Literature, Government Politics and Histor y.Even if the student chooses a subject that they enjoy, the A-level tests are still difficult and require a lot of studying in order to succeed. Students who do not achieve the desired results during the exam period are often devastated and left without many options to choose from.British pupils and their parents alike often play the blame game when they are not achieving the results they wish for. Many find faults in the lack of motivation from the student, the incompetence of the teachers to transmit the information correctly, or even the National Education System. The one who bears the real burden in this entire situation is the distressed pupil who must now look for alternative solutions to be accepted into a university or the workforce. This causes a lot of stress and anxiety at a very young age.How to avoid all of this heartache? If you were thinking, home tutoring or online tutoring, you guessed right! Private tutoring sessions fortify the student's knowledge about things a lready learnt and help with providing the extra school support needed to have the pupil face the future with confidence and hope.future choices at a post-secondary level.During this very important year, the student will begin to learn more about common culture, test his subject preferences and discover his strengths and weaknesses by trying out different disciplines.Based on the pupil's academic achievements, his own motivation and the opinion of his teachers, during the end of Key Stage 4, the student will be able to make a sound decision to choose four subjects to study during the GCE Advanced Level. Many studies and statistics have proven that students perform better on courses that they enjoy. They are also more motivated to broaden their skills and learn more about the subject they have chosen. Telegraph Online has a great article detailing the effects of choosing a learning path that you enjoy. How will a young student know what he enjoys and excels at? A private tutor! Studen ts feel vulnerable and insecure at this stage. This is very understandable because this decision and choice is one that will shape their way of life. Private academic instructors work towards ensuring a stable atmosphere where the student can choose without feeling pressure from his teachers and parents.Private tutors guide their students to success by helping them choose between university or vocational programs, scholarships to apply for and their own personal academic orientation. Success is attainable!Offering Remedial Teaching to Students in Difficulty to Avoid Technology ClassesPressure from parents to succeed and an intense workload can cause a lot of anxiety for students. (Source: Visual Hunt)Caught in the turmoil of family ambitions, some students will need homework help to lead them to pass the A-levels with flying colours. Indeed, if the student is coming from a scientific, economic or literary family, whose older brothers and sisters have already passed the A-Level exam s with honours, he is pressured to succeed and make a good name for the family. The student begins to feel pressured to choose scientifical or technological based subjects to please the family and it is as if there is a dark cloud of disappointment looming over his head. The student starts to become obsessed with succeeding and views it as the only option in order to avoid family dismay...It is therefore during this downward spiral of result based pressure that a private tutor comes highly recommended. Just like a player of a successful football team, a private educator enters the game after half-time showing all his talent to avoid seeing his team lose.A private tutor becomes a member of the team and he does all he can to see the MVP, the pupil, succeed. Although prepared, trained and more than motivated to support the student, he will evolve in a hostile educational environment. The private tutor needs to prove himself capable because his desired presence at first, will depend on t he results that he must quickly acquire to avoid being thrown out of the house by the student or his parents. Thus, the private instructor will need to work extra hard to ensure that lessons are tailored to the student and that he is making noticeable progress. The teacher will have to properly execute a stable pace, apply the appropriate methodology and reinforce the student's concentration during the one on one at home classes. The best tutors prepare mentally for the announcement of each and every test result. A professional educator is able to think about the potential errors and problems of the student. They have the ability to think ahead and foresee just like an experienced football coach. They know which plays need work.Extra school support can be started at a primary school level to ensure you that your child is confident and successful! If it's your language, what could go wrong? Many think this way but the English Language option is more challenging at an A Level than it is at a GCSE level. However, that does not mean that success is beyond the reach of all secondary school students. This option is available at the majority of the exam boards and may come a bit easier in comparison to other subjects.Just like any other subject, the key to success is careful study and preparation. If the young student is interested in pursuing a career in teaching at a primary or secondary school level, teaching English as a foreign language, journalism, writing, marketing or public relations the English Language at an A Level is for him. It would be wise for the student to start preparing and improving his language skills during his last years of secondary school, particularly during Key Stage 4.Studying English can be very enjoyable as you study the famous works of Shakespeare and Jane Austen. (Source: Visual Hunt)If your child is having trouble mastering the English language, understanding literary texts, grammar and vocabulary, don't despair a private English tutor can be of great aid to have the student reach his academic goals. The tutor should consider reading and writing sheets, practising oral expressions and literary terms.Language tutors would do well to revise the syllabus offered for the English Language option and consider elements that could be beneficial to the student such as:Responding to literature. Reading through selected text s and preparing to answer a selection of questions or write a small essay.Analyzing poems from various authors and pre-20th-century texts from classic authors such as William Shakespeare. As a private tutor, it is a great help to be passionate about the English language. This passion will be contagious and the student will want to study more and acquire invaluable knowledge.Make personal tutoring sessions entertaining and well structured. Having a good rapport with the student will facilitate conversations and make the pupil feel that there truly are no stupid questions. English is a silly but beautiful language with many exceptions, share your personal tricks in order to have the student come out ahead and succeed!Extra School Support to Revise Subjects and Gain MethodologyMany students look to private tutors for specialized attention due to overcrowded classrooms. (Source: Visual Hunt)The coefficient attributed to each A Level subject plays a lot in the choice of determining what t est preparation help the student needs to pass the finals.Whether you are straight A or average student, the academic support you receive in all of your selected subjects is nevertheless of vital importance to continue progressing and receive good results on your final exams. Here are 5 reasons justifying supplemental instruction while studying and revising the A Level subjects:Some classes are full of students and sometimes struggling pupils don't receive the academic support they need. A personal tutor fills in the blanks of the distracted classroom professor and helps the student succeed in very important subjects.Gives customized tips and tricks in order to improve the student's school performance.A personal academic educator teaches the student new, invaluable methods that will follow him throughout his whole academic career. The student is encouraged to have better study skills and do more homework to prepare himself for the future.Develop the pupils learning faculties so that they can graduate with honours!Tutoring and Advanced Level Subjects: isn't that a bit much?Burn out or mental exhaustion is the worry of every concerned parent who thinks that their child's workload is too intense for such a young age...Every year, secondary students from the United Kingdom spend about 714 hours at school. This is higher than the worldwide average of 656 hours a year but still a lot lower than other nations such as Chile and the United States each reporting over 1000 hours of school yearly. Therefore with these facts, British school children and parents should not complain. The question of spending too much time at school and doing homework is not relevant. The real question that needs to be asked is whether the student is fulfilled in the studies he leads, the extracurricular activities he participates in and that he is not too pressured by his parents to overachieve.Remedial teaching should never be considered as an unnecessary burden because it offers help to the student in many aspects such as teaching him the right methods, assisting the pupil to understand the lessons and sometimes even by participating in the elaboration of his homework answers. If you really think about tutoring saves valuable time!In addition, a private teacher with the right qualifications is attentive to details and compassionate to the problems of the student. That is the tutor's main role! Therefore, a qualified personal educator will realize if his presence is causing annoyance to the student and will schedule at home sessions with more spaced time. The question of too many accumulated hours studying should be supervised carefully by parents of secondary and primary school students. One thing is for sure, remedial teaching can be done at any age and the results are extremely noticeable!
How Tutoring Can Help Your Chemistry Student
How Tutoring Can Help Your Chemistry Student How Tutoring Can Help Your Chemistry Student If your student attends a high school with a required chemistry course, or if your student elected to take chemistry and finds himself or herself struggling to master concepts of nomenclature and stoichiometry, its time to take initiative with a plan to get your student the chemistry help he or she needs for success in the classroom and beyond. But first, why is success in a high school chemistry class so important? The fundamentals of chemistry are required for many college majors, including health sciences, bioengineering, and biology, and basic level chemistry is highly suggested for an even larger number of majors. ACT Math Strategy Series [Part 3 of 3]
ACT Math Strategy Series [Part 3 of 3] ACT SAT Prep and College Admissions Blog Math is a subject that most students either love or hate. In either case, preparing thoroughly for the Math section of the ACT is important in order to do your best. If math is not your strongest subject, building a solid foundation of understanding will be important for maintaining a decent overall score. If math comes easily for you, reviewing will still be important in order to fill in the gaps in your knowledge, especially if you want your score to truly reflect your ability. Either way, this series of posts gives you valuable strategies that will help you maximize your score. This post is the third of a three part series that looks at strategies for acing the ACT Math section. Strategy #7: Recognize Obvious Shortcuts Often problems that appear to involve laborious calculations will actually be quicker to answer if you recognize shortcuts. For example, 256/64 is obviously 4 if you know your powers of 2. Other problems might be quicker to solve if you merely approximate the answer, which may get you close enough to recognize the correct answer from among the given choices. The more you practice with the specific types of problems that show up on the ACT, the more easily you will be able to recognize shortcuts when they are available (and the less likely you will be to waste time looking for them when they donât exist). Strategy #8: Check Obvious Answers It doesnât hurt to glance at the answer choices before attempting to solve a problem and check for any that appear to be obviously correct or obviously incorrect. Of course, if an answer choice appears to be obviously correct you should still verify it for yourself, as well as confirm that the other choices are not correct. Conversely, if an answer is obviously incorrect, you can eliminate it, which can make it easier to identify the correct one. Strategy #9: Use Strategic Guessing On the ACT there is no penalty for guessing, so there is no reason to not answer every problem. Guessing works best if you can stack the odds in your favor by eliminating as many incorrect answer choices as possible. On some problems you may be able to guess and check. If the answer is a number, it makes sense to guess the middle one first, because if it doesnât work you may be able to tell if you need to go higher or lower. This will often be faster than starting at the highest number and going down or starting at the lowest number and going up. Contracts 101 9 key things that should be in your teach abroad contract
Contracts 101 9 key things that should be in your teach abroad contract So, you nailed that interview and have a job offer in your ideal location, congrats! All that's left is to sign on the dotted line. Easy, right? Not so fast! I know it might feel like a like a drag at first, but reading through your contract before you start your teaching job is essential to helping you understand exactly what to expect from your new role. We know that for first-time teachers abroad, reviewing your contract can seem like a daunting process. How can you be sure you're getting a good deal? Thatâs where this video, hosted by our resident contracts expert, Graeme, comes in. Stay tuned while he walks you through the 9 things you should check for when reviewing your new teaching contract. Before we dive in, here are few things to keep in mind when reviewing your offer letter or contract for the first time: The length of the document will vary depending on the country your new role is located in (with schools in China, for example, offer letters may be as long as 20 pages!) Some of the terminology used to refer to bonuses or accommodation allowances will vary from country to country You might not see the benefits listed on the original job description on your offer letter If youâre uncertain about anything at all, donât hesitate to reach out to your Placement Coordinator for an explanation. Thatâs what weâre here for! Short on time? No worries! Before you sign on the dotted line, here are the key takeaways from the video above: 1. Salary Your monthly gross salary must be stated in your contract and it should also specify whether the amount listed is before or after tax. It should also say whether youâll be paid in local currency or USD, and whether your salary will be deposited into a local bank account or an account back at home. One final thing: your contract should state when you can expect to be paid each month. Take it from me - this info is super important in helping you budget accordingly when you first arrive in your new country! 2. Vacation Your vacation allowance must be included. You may want to do some quick research to confirm this adheres to the national holiday entitlement, and also check what statutory holidays you can take. You might also want to check with your employer on whether you get a choice of which days to take. They might have restrictions on when teachers can take time off, depending on the time of year. 3. Flights Schools often contribute towards the cost of your flight, either partially or in full. The contract should explain how the cost of flights will be covered, whether they will be directly purchased by the school or reimbursed later. 4. Accommodation Many schools offer teachers a housing allowance, many cover accommodation expenses in full, and some even arrange housing for you. If accommodation is provided, itâs worth checking whether you get a choice of housing, if youâll have to share with roommates and whether utility bills will be covered. If you get a housing allowance, check that itâs not included in your base salary. Your contract should state how much housing allowance youâll receive and how frequently. Does your contract specify whether your allowance gets paid to to you or to your landlord directly? Does your contract state that you will have to pay the deposit? Will your employer assist you in finding a place to live? These are all questions you can ask your Teach Away Placement Coordinator to clarify with your new employer if theyâre not covered in your contract. Tip: Don't forget to look up the cost of renting an apartment in the area near your school to help you figure out what your living expenses will be like when you move overseas. Sign up to Teach Away today for access to the latest teaching jobs around the world. 5. Healthcare If youâve been promised medical insurance, this should also appear in your contract. It should mention the period and extent of coverage, or at least how to find out this information. 6. Dependents If youâre relocating with a family, a contract should confirm what costs, if any, will be covered, such as their flights and school fees. 7. Contract length The majority of teaching contracts last for at least one school year, but increasingly contracts are for two years or more, often with benefits such as bonuses for completion. 8. Contract termination ? Your contract must also explain what will happen if you terminate your contract before it ends and what this will mean for you and (if applicable) your spouse and dependents. All checked off? Great, you can now relax a little, knowing your contract forms the basis of a great teaching position. Remember, if youâve recently been offered a teaching job abroad through Teach Away, your Placement Coordinator will be happy to go through your contract with you, so donât hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Just getting started with your job hunt? Check out the five key qualities hiring schools are looking for in a teach abroad candidate - and see whether you fit the bill.
More Fun Than Quidditch Harry Potter Language Learning
More Fun Than Quidditch Harry Potter Language Learning More Fun Than Quidditch: Harry Potter Language Learning Expecto Learnonum!Okay, maybe thats not a real spell, but it should be.After all, Harry Potter can help you learn languages, and were not just talking about Parseltongue.Of all the language learning books on the market, its possible that none will charm you quite like the boy wizard can.You dont even have to settle for just reading the books. With audiobooks and movies out there, too, your learning options are nearly as limitless as your powers should you possess the legendary Elder Wand.So its time to cast a spell on your language learning! Heres all you need to know to improve your language skills with Harry Potter. Why Use Harry Potter for Language Learning?First of all, Harry Potter is available in a wide variety of languages. In fact, Harry Potter books are available in a total of 80 languages, ranging from widely spoken languages like French and Spanish to less common languages like Hawaiian. Youre unlikely to find many novels published in more languages than Harry Potter.Pl us, the plot will be familiar to Potter fans, so you dont need to rely as heavily on your language skills. Because you already know the story, Harry Potter can read more like an easy language book than other novels at its approximate difficulty level. And if youre not needing to focus as heavily on following the plot, you can dedicate your focus more to understanding the language. Not only that, the Harry Potter series will familiarize you with some less common terms that youre unlikely to encounter in your normal study routine. Wizard, werewolf, unicorn and more. While those words are fairly recognizable in English, theres a strong chance that even advanced language students dont know them in their target languages because they simply havent had a need for them yet. However, Harry Potter makes extensive use of some terms that you may be familiar with in English but not your target language, making it an excellent way to expand your vocabulary (and infuse it with a little magical fu n).Reading Harry Potter in another language also gives you fun bragging rights. Reading books in your native language is cool, but reading books in your target language is much cooler. And with so many Potterheads out there, chances are that someone you know will be super impressed by your accomplishment. But be warned: They may ask you to share their favorite spells in your target language. As an added bonus, the books get more difficult as you go. If you arent terribly familiar with reading in a foreign language, it can be challenging at first. Luckily, since the Harry Potter books start out relatively easy before getting increasingly challenging, your skills will improve as the reading level of the books increases. You can think of it as the earlier books giving you the reading practice you need to prepare you for the later books. How to Get the Most out of Your Harry Potter Language Learning ExperienceUse multiple versions of Harry PotterThere are plenty of versions of Harry Pott er available. You might read the books, listen to the audiobooks or watch the movies. And dont worry: You wont need to use a sorting hat to choose just one to which youll be permanently bound. Instead, use as many versions of Harry Potter as you can. Reading Harry Potter can give you valuable reading practice. The audiobooks give you excellent listening practice that you can enjoy anywhere. The movies also give you listening practice with the added benefit of giving you a visual context to help understand any words or phrases you dont immediately recognize. When it comes to learning a language with Harry Potter, you cant go wrong with any of the available options, even if the movies do omit some valuable plots and scenes that definitely, definitely should have made the cut. (Not that were bitter!)Go through each book/movie in orderReading, listening or watching out of order can obviously be confusing. But beyond that, reading, listening or watching in order is a valuable way for lang uage learners to prepare themselves for whats next in the series. The books become increasingly advanced. The movies get increasingly dark. All in all, starting at the very beginning is an important way to ease yourself into the Wizarding World in your target language.Plus, starting at the beginning can familiarize you with magical vocabulary before the plots get more complex. You dont want to be trying to learn tricky vocabulary when you have to give your full focus to the Battle of Hogwarts!Have an English copy of the work handy for referenceHaving an English version of Harry Potter handy can make reading, listening or watching infinitely less intimidating. The two works can act sort of like dual-language childrens booksâ"you can do as much as possible in your target language, but if things get a little overwhelming, you have your trusted English version at the your fingertips to clarify things.Plus, lets be real: The goddess J.K. Rowling made up an awful lot of words and phrase s. In your native language, you can adjust to these. However, in your target language, you might not be sure when a word or phrase is invented versus when you just dont have it in your foreign vocabulary yet. Having an English copy handy can help you read through any tricky scenes in English to deduce which words and phrases are made up.Maintain a special vocabulary list to keep track of unfamiliar wordsDont let a rogue bludger throw your reading off track! Maintain a list of unfamiliar words. Better yet, consider two separate lists. One list should focus on Potter-specific words, like Quidditch vocabulary, spells, potions and charms. These words wont necessarily benefit your vocabulary in your target language. However, maintaining your own reference list can save you time when you encounter this vocabulary again. The second list should focus on vocabulary in your target language that does exist outside of the Wizarding World, like mythical creatures, magical terms and any other unfam iliar vocabulary you encounter. Then, you can look up these words in a dictionary for a more precise definition and study the terms so that you never forget them. After youve finished one book or movie, create a flashcard deck for it so you can review all the new vocabulary youve learned.Looking for a unique flashcard resource? Check out FluentU. For the most part, FluentU is known for its authentic language videos, which make it possible to learn languages from music videos, commercials, news, inspiring talks and more. With FluentU, you hear languages in real-world contextsâ"the way that native speakers actually use them.Just a quick look will give you an idea of the variety of FluentU videos on offer:FluentU really takes the grunt work out of learning languages, leaving you with nothing but engaging, effective and efficient learning. Itâs already hand-picked the best videos for you and organized them by level and topic. All you have to do is choose any video that strikes your fancy to get started! Each word in the interactive captions comes with a definition, audio, image, example sentences and more.Access a complete interactive transcript of every video under the Dialogue tab, and easily review words and phrases from the video under Vocab. You can use FluentUâs unique adaptive quizzes to learn the vocabulary and phrases from the video through fun questions and exercises. Just swipe left or right to see more examples of the word youre studying. The program even keeps track of what youâre learning and tells you exactly when itâs time for review, giving you a 100% personalized experience.Start using FluentU on the website with your computer or tablet or, better yet, download the FluentU app from the iTunes store or Google Play store.Read/write reviews and summaries in your target languageYour language learning doesnt need to stop when the books, audiobooks and/or movies end! Since Harry Potter is so popular, you can keep your language learning on a roll by reading and writing reviews in your target language.Harry Potter has fans all over the world, so by searching the title in your target language, you can generally find a website where users can post reviews. Read what others have to say about your favorite work, or better yet, write your own review or summary to get valuable writing practice that employs some of the awesome vocabulary you just learned.More Fun Than Quidditch: Harry Potter Language LearningThe Harry Potter BooksThe benefits of learning with the Harry Potter booksThe books of Harry Potter are available in a massive variety of languages and are one of the best Harry Potter learning tools out there.Theyre particularly ideal for language learners who have already read the novels in English. This way, youll already know what happens and when. One major benefit of learning a language with the Harry Potter novels is that theyre readily available. You dont have to shop internationally to purchase them, and while th eyre pricier than the English-language editions, they arent prohibitively expensive.Foreign language Harry Potter books are often available in print editions, which provide some additional opportunities for language learning. For instance, whenever you dont know a word and need to look it up, write its meaning in the margins of the page. That way, the next time you read through the book, if youve forgotten a word, youll already have its meaning handy. You might also want to dogear pages with your favorite quotations and underline them. Then, you can go back through and memorize your favorite lines. Not only will this be a cool party trick, it can also give you valuable models for grammar rules. Plus, you can never know Dumbledores quotable wisdom in too many languages.E-books are also widely available, meaning you can start reading immediately and have the convenience of reading on your favorite device (which may or may not also have a handy translator on it). The 6 Best Sources of Language Learning Videos on the Internet
The 6 Best Sources of Language Learning Videos on the Internet The 6 Best Sources of Language Learning Videos on the Internet Do you want to take learning a second language to the next level?Do you really want to immerse yourself, really?I just wanna make sure because there are many people out there who say theyâd love to get that second language in the bag, but then never do something about it.They always put it off for some other time, instead of getting in daily practice. And the tragedy is, the thing that they have to do isnât really that difficult. Itâs really not.Itâs as easy as watching a video.Seriously.If youâre gonna be speeding up the process of language acquisition, one of the things that you absolutely have to do is to watch clips, movies, telenovelas, series, newscasts, etc. And you should do that a lot. Now, I know watching videos has been vilified by the pundits of the past saying, âTV is Evilâ or âYouTube will obliterate culture.â You know that hasnât happened. In fact, academics have changed their minds about videos, warming up to the possibility that it actually i s the future of education. In this post, weâre gonna pay homage to motion pictures by giving you best sources of language learning videos on the internet. Before we do that, letâs talk about some of the reasons why videos are so effective as a language learning tool. Why Videos Work in Language Learning: The 3 MâsVideos Make the Students MotivatedIf thereâs any doubt as to the motivating effect of videos on people, one only has to look at how students are responding to the games presented in video formâ"or the so-called video games. The positive effect of games on learning is well-documented. But having those games in video form seems to take it to a whole new level where students actually get addicted to learning and make peanuts out of the lessons.Videos have this effect of exciting and engaging the students in any activity. We all heard of kids who forget to eat or sleep because theyâre so mesmerized by some video game, right?Today, videos are being used in language c ourses to maximize motivation and minimize anxiety in learners. We will look at some of these sites later on in greater detail, and you pick whichever looks most interesting to you.Videos Make the Lessons MemorableVideos are moving to the forefront of education. They have been found to have positive effects on the medium and long term memory.Videos generate visual stimulants that wake up the brain cells and demand focused attention. How many teachers or audio courses actually get focused attention from their students? A video requires that you look at it. It demands that you listen and take stock. Because of these characteristics, videos improve learning outcomes. But hold your horses just yet. There are probably billions of videos in existence, and not all of them are created equal. They have varying degrees of educational impact.Content matters. A boring video, well, is boring. Thereâs really no way around that. How the video integrates the different technologies available also matters. For example, captioned videos are significantly more effective in teaching language than uncaptioned ones. Later weâll learn about how websites make their videos more interesting than the rest of the competition.Videos Make the Culture MeaningfulCulture can never be divorced from the language that gives it expression.Videos provide visual context for the lessons, allowing students to see not only what the teacher or native speakers actually look like, but also their facial expressions, animated gestures and even their fashion sense. All of the little visual cues add up to give the student a bigger picture of what the culture is like. You dont have this element with non-visual podcasts or audiobooks.Only video really gives this type of peek into the culture of the language you are learning. And thatâs why, if youâre gonna be acquiring your target language soon, you better open your eyes and your mind to the profound and subtle lessons of one simple, unassuming, vid eo.Ok. Go to your Account Settings and then to Email and tell YouTube to send you messages in the language of your choice. Make sure youre making the most out of every video by turning on the subtitles whenever theyre available. Always be on the lookout for the CC symbol, then go to the Settings button found immediately below the video screen and pick the language from the available subtitles. For those wanting practice in their language of choice, why not type in the target language in the search bar? As always, be courteous to everybody. Before long, you wont even notice that youre not browsing, reading and writing in English. Hows that for immersion, huh?Used properly, YouTube can be a language-learning tool that goes beyond your catâs wildest imaginations.Iâve just given you the six most fertile sources of videos online. Next, we are going to talk about the different ways of watching these videos. Because there are different types of videos online, there are also different ways of watching them. That all depends on your purpose, which is what we âre going to talk about now.3 Different Strategies for Watching Language Videos1. Watching for Pleasure (Taking in the Big Picture)This technique is usually done for foreign movies or series. The purpose here is not linguistic at all. Itâs for entertainment. So itâs usually the method used when one initially approaches new material.Lets say youâre watching a short clip, episode or film. You watch it first just like any normal movie-goer would. If the video has English subtitles, then you turn them on so you can understand whatâs going on.This approach familiarizes you with the plot of the movie, for example. It introduces you to the characters, the basic conflict and the different twists and complications to the story. Youâre taking it all in. Youâre not thinking about vocabulary or grammar at this point. Now, donât belittle this approach and think it âsuperficial.â If youâre gonna milk a video, clip or movie for all itâs worth, if youâre gonna understa nd the nuances in the language later on, youâre gonna have to do this to every video that comes your way. Watch it for pleasure; take it all in.Do this 3-4 times! ( Youâll thank me later.)Youâll never understand context or why they are using a certain type of vocabulary if you donât get the big picture.2. Watching with Subtitles, Without Subtitles or Dubbed in Another LanguageThis is where you start to get linguistic in your efforts. Now that you understand the big picture, watch the whole thing again, but this time with the purpose of learning. Watch it with the foreign subtitles. This is really going to help you with vocabulary, spelling and grammar. As you read the subtitles, youâre remembering the dialogues and youâre remembering the English equivalents of words. This becomes easier because you have the benefit of context to help you remember. (Thatâs why you need to watch the video over and over.)Then youâre gonna watch it without the subtitles. This time, youâll be doing a lot of listening. Youâll train your ears to listen to the tone, cadence and pronunciation of the words. And because of your familiarity with the material, youâll probably be predicting the words and dialogue. (If so, practice speaking them out loud!)Now, if by chance the material is dubbed in English, then watch it. This way, you will be approaching the subject from a different angle. And this will only strengthen your knowledge of the material.Doing these three things will allow you to really get all you can out of a video. A single clip, movie or episode can teach you a lot if you have the patience to let it.3. Watching with Intent (Pause and Play Method)Now this is the most productive part of watching a video. Youâre not only milking it, youâre really gonna mine it for all it has.Watching with intent is when you donât care about the big picture, you donât care about the movie or the characters, plot or whatever is going on. Youâre just watching it for the language gems you can mine. You do this scene by scene. And a single scene you do line by line. So in a sequence of dialogue, you pause the movie after a series of lines. Then you study the lines and mine it for every grammatical, vocabulary and context lesson it presents. (The cool thing is, the more you know about a language, the sharper your eyes and ears are for these things. But for the true beginner, youâre gonna have to be content with what you can mine at the moment.)When youâre done with the last approach, you would have watched the whole thing close to 20 times. Youâll be so sick of it, youll wish it had never been made. Youâll consider it the worst tragedy in the history of learning. But guess what, whoâs gotten better with the language because of it?Yup, you. And youll be miles ahead. Its all worth it, so keep on going. Happy watching!

Helping Students With Student Tutoring in Bellevue WA
Helping Students With Student Tutoring in Bellevue WASeattle has a great school district and many of the students are learning to work through their classes on their own. This is one way they can get to the college they want to go to and so for students who may not have a lot of money they can help their educational career by helping to pay their way through their classes with private tutoring in Bellevue Wa. There are several places where students can use tutoring services in this area.If you attend a school and you need to get up a few extra hours you can use the services of the private tutors at your school. These are either a service to the school or at least our part of the school district. These places generally charge an hourly rate or a flat fee based on the number of hours they help you to complete. However, private tutors are not always able to give students as much help as they would like. For some students there may be a need to find other ways to finish their class assign ments. Some parents will choose to take their child to an outside school. This is where students can continue their education by paying their way through their class work on their own. Many parents think that if their child does not go to school it is because they do not want to go to school. Some parents do want their child to go to school, but the child just does not have the grades that they are looking for. The parents must be willing to take a chance to see if the child can learn to work on their own at home and complete their work at home. This way the child will not miss out on much time at school when their friends have nothing to do. The child may not have a full time job and will still have a social life if they get their work done at home. This is good for the child's future because they will not have to worry about being home with no money when the family needs food.It is true that there are some private schools that have several students going to the same school. This can lead to some kids being separated in class. Some children are involved in sports and may have different groups to hang out with. This can cause problems for all the children because they do not get along. These private tutors can help the children get to know each other. They can teach the child how to handle their social life and also develop the child's confidence. In the end these services can help the children and parents bond together. Parents can even help out by making sure that their child gets to spend as much time as possible at home.
